My HERMS - Brew Stand

Last Updated on March 16, 2010

My original brewstand was a two tier wooden stand built around 5 gallon vessels. Almost as soon as I made it I replaced the 5 gallon vessels with 10 gallon ones. So, 6 months on I built another....... from steel!!!

Here's the plan I (loosely) followed.

This is the basic stand welded up. It's made from 30mm square section tube.

Next I made some pot stands to be welded on top.

I'm not a particularly good welder but a couple of top tips are, buy an auto dimming helmet so you can see what you're welding and get a bunch of magnetic clamps they make the whole business of lining things up much easier.

Here are the pot stands waiting to be welded.

Then I welded them in place and ground down the welds to leave a nice smooth platform to stand the vessels on.

Degrease and paint. I used Gunk and Smoothrite (also had a well deserved pint)

Next all that was left was to transfer the electrics from the old stand to the new and to fit the MLT, HLT and copper.
